How did they get their name?

Where do they live? Only found on the rocky Macquarie Island
How long do they live? Royal penguins live between 5  and 11 years.
What is the height of this penguin? They are about 23 inches tall.
What is the weight of this penguin? They weigh 8 to 9 pounds. 
What do they look like? Royal penguins are very similar in appearance to Macaroni penguins. The main distinguishing feature is the color of the chin and face. Royals have predominately white chins and faces while those of Macaronis are mostly black.
What do they eat? They feed on krill, fish and small amounts of squid.
Where do they nest and what are the nests like? They build their nest by making a shallow hole in the sand or in a weeded area. They line the nest with plants and stones.
What are the predators of this penguin? The main threats come from south polar skuas which take both eggs and unprotected young.
What are some interesting facts about this penguin? Royals along with the Macaroni penguins are the largest of the crested penguins.
