How did they get their name? This penguin was named after Ferdinand Magellan who first saw them in 1519 on his first voyage around the tip of South America.
Where do they live? Stormy and rocky shores of the Falklands, Argentina, and Chile.
How long do they live? Magellanic penguins can live up to 25 years in the wild.
What is the height of this penguin? They are about 27 inches tall.
What is the weight of this penguin? They weigh 9 pounds. 
What do they look like? They have a wide black strip under their chin and another is in the shape of an upside down horseshoe on their stomachs. On their chests they have scattered black spots.
What do they eat? Their diet consists of krill, fish, squid, and other small seafood.
Where do they nest and what are the nests like? Their nests are built under bushes or burrows under rocks.
What are the predators of this penguin? Magellanic penguins are occasionally preyed upon by the Southern sea lion.
What are some interesting facts about this penguin? Both the male and female share in the responsibility of caring for the chicks, often taking shifts lasting ten to fifteen days while the other hunts for food.
