Gentoo Penguin

How did they get their name?	Gentoo, meaning "turban", refers to the whitish markings behind the eyes of this species.
Where do they live?	Antarctic Peninsula & Sub Antarctic islands these islands include Falklands, South Georgia, Kerguelen, Heard, South Orkney, Macquarie, Crozet, Prince Edward and South Sandwich
How long do they live?	Gentoo penguins live about 8 years.
What is the height of this penguin?	They are about 30 inches tall.

What do they look like?	Gentoos are distinguished from the smaller Adelie and Chinstrap species by their bright red-orange bills and conspicuous white patches behind their eyes.
What do they eat?	They eat small fish, squid and crustaceans.
Where do they nest and what are the nests like?	Their nests are made on the rocky shores. They prefer the inland grasslands for nest building. They carry and pile stones, pebbles, grass, sticks, and anything they can find to make a circle.
What are the predators of this penguin?	Gentoo penguin eggs are taken by skuas. Young birds are preyed upon by sheathbills, caracaras (falcons), Kelp gulls, Giant petrels and feral cats, while older birds are taken by Leopard seals. Nests are often flattened by indifferent Elephant seals as they move about the colonies.
