Erect-Crested Penguin

 

 

How did they get their name? They get their name because they have
spiky, golden feathers above their eyes.
Where do they live? Antipodes, Bounty, Oakland, and Campbell Islands, New Zealand
How long do they live? Penguins can live up to 15 to 20 years in the wild.
What is the height of this penguin? They are about 20 inches tall.
What is the weight of this penguin? They weigh about 8 pounds. 
What do they look like? The erect-crested penguins have long, silky feathers that stand straight. This spiky, brush like feathers grow from the base of the bill to the top of the head giving this penguin a distinct look. They can also raise and lower these feathers on the crest, which none of the other crested penguins can do.
What do they eat? Their diet is mainly fish and krill.
Where do they nest and what are the nests like? Erect-Crested Penguins build their nest on rocks with little to no nesting material to line nests
What are the predators of this penguin? Erect-crested penguins are preyed upon by skuas and Fur seals.
