How did they get their name? Adelie penguins were named after the wife of a French explorer in the 1830s.
Where do they live? Antarctica
How long do they live? Adelies live up to 14 years of age.
What is the height of this penguin? They are about 2 feet tall.
What is the weight of this penguin? They weigh 8 or 9 pounds. 
What do they look like? One way to distinguish them from the other penguins is by their all black head and the white ring around their eye.
What do they eat? Their diet is mainly fish and krill.
Where do they nest and what are the nests like? Adelies build their nests of stones on the rocky beaches of Antarctica, jealously guarding and often fighting over the best rocks.
What are the predators of this penguin? The main predators of Adelie penguins are Skuas, which will quickly eat unguarded eggs and chicks on land, and Leopard Seals and Killer Whales (orcas) at sea.
What are some interesting facts about this penguin? Adelie penguins are the smallest of the Antarctic penguins.
